Job Purpose

Works with earth moving equipment operators in sloping highways and fill embankments.  Sometimes referred to as "Guinea Chasers", as they follow motor graders along, on foot, to uncover blue-topped wooden hubs to let the Operators know when to add or remove fill material based on grade. 

Primary Duties

  • Check level grade using laser level (rotary level).
  • Check grade using tape measure and hand level. Measure offsets to grade points. chase wood hubs for motor grader
  • Clean curbs and check curb grade,
  • Use string line to check road grade,
  • Set wood hubs and check grade for curb and sidewalk forms.

 Specific Skills or Knowledge

  • Use tape measure (engineers scale).
  • Use single plane rotary laser.
  • Use sledge hammer to set wood hubs,
  • Sweep and clean curbs for motor-grader

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School or GED
  • 2 years of experience preferred in a Civil Construction environment
  • Desire to learn and grow in the earth moving trades.
